    Four new compositions. (1) for Viola, Piano, Alto Sax, Percs and live processing (2) for Bb Clarinet and Tape (3) for a large number of instruments and a mass of brass; (4) for Voice (Federica Santoro) and a montage made from instrumental recordings of other pieces of Tim’s (rehearsal with Banda Municipal de Barcelona and fragments of his second String Quartet). All of 1,2 and 3 are played, real or virtual, by Tim. Composed chamber music, complex and persuasive.

  • FRED FRITH: Live in Japan



    Concert recordings made at various venues in Japan in 1981 and released by Recommended Records Japan in 1982 in an edition of 1000. Out of print since, though highly sought after, it has now been transferred and remastered by Tom Dimuzio for this official reissue. Fred was just starting out on his long career as a solo improviser when he made this double LP, and still using the now long retired Charles Fletcher custom double-neck guitar (one fretted, one fretless) and the Burns Black Bison, as well as a pilot’s throat mike, a violin and (at one venue) the house piano. Some great music – and an historic and important document.

  • FRED FRITH: Impur part II



    Essentially a pretty great concert by a large 19 strong ensemble with Fred conducting as well as playing. Lots of rhythm, harmony, rock noise, exotic instrumentation, power, complexity and melodic writing, with stretches of chaos, eccentricity and theatre. Totally different, then, from Impur part 1 (ReR FRFC1) which was a deconstructed, spatialised simultaneity of musical events heard through open windows or by wandering through rooms; Impur 2 was an unannounced performance upon which audience members had to stumble (and then collect their friends – or not). The recording here was in fact made a little later, by the same people in a different artspace and has been edited and re-mastered by Fred for this release. It fits well in the aesthetic of earlier group records from Fred: Gravity, Skeleton Crew, Keep the Dog.
